Since the Tea Party took the GOP by storm, they have imposed a strong right-wing agenda on the Republican party. Members of the Grand Old Party who did not meet the lofty expectations were threatened to be voted out of office. The Tea Party flexed their political muscles in 2010, removing several prominent Republicans during the primary process. Mike Castle in Delaware and Lisa Murkowski in Alaska were both overtaken during the primary by Tea Party groups. Bob Bennett was completely swarmed by a Tea Party challenger in Utah. Tea Party nominees took seats in the House of Representatives on a message of stopping excessive government spending, taking on Wall Street, lowering taxes, and balancing the budget. Today, the fractures within the Tea Party are showing as the 2012 primary season is in full effect. Continue reading
