I spent hours today looking at stats, bills, roll calls, debates, floor meetings, bills sent to the Senate, pledges and other data from the House of Representatives for 2011. My eyes have crossed over with some of the language and intentionally confusing or conflicting data. What I couldn’t find through all this was just a simple list showing what the House has passed during 2011 compared to what has been signed into law. I found some estimates, ranging from 12 to 20 pieces of legislation that have made it to the White House this year. That is amazingly low. In a normal year, the average number of bills passed by the House is around 250, nearly one per day of session.
